[UPDATE 4] Ebuyer & Google dispatching Nexus 7 tablet

We’ve just received word from Ebuyer that the new Nexus 7 tablet will be ‘Out for Delivery’ tomorrow – the first that we’ve heard from any major retailer about a definite release date.  Assuming that Ebuyer stick to this (and Google don’t stop them from delivering the tablet), then a few of the CoolSmartPhone team should have their mitts on the device sometime soon.
We covered the Nexus 7 launch and aftermath here on CoolSmartPhone – click here to view our posts on the subject.

As of yet we haven’t heard  from any other retailers (including Google, as you can see from the screenshot above –  taken at the time of writing) about release dates – do you think they will release the tablet tomorrow or are Ebuyer jumping the gun? Let us know in the comments.
Update 12/07/12 17:58- A member of the Google support team has told us that no retailers are authorised to ship and that the Google orders are at the pre-shipping stage, meaning that the Google accounts are being loaded onto the device and then it will be shipped. The actual shipment will happen within the next day or two. We don’t know yet if this impacts on the previously-confirmed Ebuyer shipments tomorrow – more as we have it.
Update 2 12/07/12 22:27 - Ebuyer have confirmed the dispatch of Nexus 7 devices to several of the CoolSmartPhone staff. Still no word from anyone (other than Google) on when they will be fulfilling their pre-orders. Again, as soon as we hear more we will update this post!
Update 3 13/07/12 8:25 -

As you can see from the photo above, our very own Ravi Patel has received his Nexus 7 from Ebuyer.
Update 4 13/07/12 19:15 -

Google have updated their Pre-order information page to state that they have begun shipping the tablet to the first pre-order customers.

Samsungs appeal against Galaxy Nexus ban denied

The battle between Apple and Samsung is heating up. A few days ago Apple managed to get sales of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus blocked in the US. It was all down to a patent regarding the persistent search box on the screen of the Nexus.
This ban was quickly appealed by Samsung and on Tuesday in the US a judge turned down the appeal, much the same way that the appeal on the ban of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 was turned down last week.
All is not lost though Samsung and Google have apparently come up with an update for the Nexus to fix this problem. The update will be an ota update and also not carrier impeded.
This was with Apple vs the rest does not show any signs of letting up. I for one am getting a little tired of the tit for tat way these companies are approaching it. Yes I know that patents are there to stop people copying other peoples designs etc, but currently the patents system just seems to be used to block any competition by other companies.

Nexus 7 root achieved (already)

Yes, you read that right. The new Google Nexus 7 has been rooted, only two days after it was given to Google I/O attendees and around two weeks before the tablet is released to the general public. A user called ‘birdman’ on RootzWiki has posted a guide on how to root the tablet and although the original process wasn’t exactly the simplest set of root instructions, he has since released a custom Clockwork Mod recovery image to flash to the Nexus 7.
The custom CWM image can be found in the RootzWiki thread here, with the original process (for those who are curious) here. While you’re at it, why not have a look at our existing coverage for the Nexus 7?
What do you think about the device being rooted so quickly, or indeed about rooting in general? Tell us in the comments below.

Patent Wars: Now Samsung Galaxy Nexus is Banned in US

We reported a few days ago that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been banned from sale in the US pending the outcome of a patent trial bought by Apple.
Well, it would seem that Judge Lucy Koh is a bit of an Apple fan as she has now banned the Samsung Galaxy Nexus from sale in the US until the trial has been decided either way.
In a rare pre-trial injunction, Apple has had to pay a bond of £64 million in lieu of any damages sustained by Samsung should they be victorious.
US District Judge Lucy Koh said Apple “has shown a likelihood of establishing both infringement and validity”
Samsung said it was “disappointed” by Friday’s decision and that ”We will take all available measures, including legal action, to ensure the Galaxy Nexus remains available to consumers.”
This one looks set to run and run……
